Already i have been getting my friends interested into CreateAthon. Hoping that they will become team leaders or team members next year. I will also bring the spirt of createathon to my work and career trying to get my future creative advertising companies trying to bring createathon to them. I feel the need to work with non profits has sparked inside of me. If is an amazing experience to help them out. Seeing how excited and happy they where for all the work that we had doen is an just an awesome feel good experience that i want to try to achieve again and agin by working with createathon and non profits in the future.

Things I would change about CreateAthon to make it better

Interesting topic this time dont want to make anyone mad. No but really CreateAthon was amazingly great and there was not many problems but there was a few. I would like to see a few things change to see that it goes easier for the next run of team leaders. Communication there are some communication break downs sometimes i was unaware who to talk to or who was the best person to get certain advice for. The Go Team i dont feel as if there role was clearly defied and i think they where to far separated from the team leaders. I was still finding out that people where on the go team at the end of the semester. These are the main things i would change about CreateAthon there needs to be a little bit more of communication there needs to be a hierarchy of go to people for help on certain things.

Reflection on field trip to Carter Printing

Field trips are always fun and this one was no different. Carter printing press was an awesome place. I am always excited to see how things are made or how they work. I got to do both this time.

Seeing every step of my print deliverables get made was awesome. There is a lot more that goes into printing then i realized. They had to make different metal sheets one for each of the four colors CMYK. The printing process took along time and had a lot more work put into it then i would of thought. Getting to see all of the the actual print was awesome they have some of the largest printers on the east coast. Everything was extremely loud and smelled really weird. All in all it was a great experience and an awesome field trip.

What I Learned About The Way i Work

During CreateAthon i was given the chance to work with and around a lot of different people and work ethics. Seeing all these different work styles gives me insight into my own work ethic and the way i actually work. Talking about your own work ethic makes me feel as if i am in an interview process or something and that i have to impress someone.

The way i work is low key and sorta slow. At first i like to do research look at my product or client and just take in everything not really thinking about any ads yet. With CreateAthon i let my team feel out our clients and give me there thoughts on the client and how we could help them. After that i worked on with them on each part of our campaign.

So what did i learn about the way i work? Well for starters i work better in groups it lets me know its time to stop procrastinating and start working. I also learned that i need to take breaks and that taking breaks was very helpful. In the end i found out a lot about how i work and this will help me fix all my little bad habbits.

What I learned About Working With Clients

Working With Clients is the toughest and most rewarding part of createaton. There are some crazy clients out. One of my favorite tumblers just has ridicules client stories on it Clients From Hell. Just go there for some good old luls.

Clients can ask for really annoytings things. One client asked if we could install internet into there building. Sometimes they just dont understand what we are there to do. Other times they will dissagree with you on things even thought they have no clue what they are talking about. These are the bad clients.

There are also good clients out there also they are amazing giving you everything you need and helping you in any way then can. Such as giving you insight helping you on your site visits just making things easier in General giving you everything you need to make awsome work.

So working with clients really boils down to how your client is. They can make it a great experience or a horriable experince.

Why Createathon is good for Students everywhere

Createathon is an amazing experience that everyone should try one time in there life. Working with a group of people for twenty four hours straight is really fun you find out a lot about your self and you group mates. Working for a real client is an just wonderful. Putting in a bunch of work for twenty four hours straight making all these things that look cool and help your non profit then you get to give it to them and they are blown away by how awesome your work is. Working with a real brief is some really good experience that you may not always get in your class. Any one can do createathon does not matter your major there is some way you can help out. Seeing all the different students working towards the same goal is really fun. You get to make connections with other students, teachers and mentors that could help you down the road.

Collaboration: the good, the bad & the ugly

This is how i feel when i first think about Collaboration.

This how i act when i am in charge.

This is what happens when i have a good team.

But Really Collaboration is very interesting its tough. Working with other people can be a pain or really easy it just counts on your team members. For me i am shy so it takes some time for me to get comfortable with my team. But once i am conformable i work really well with other people. I am good at understanding what other people say. I work well off other peoples ideas taking bad ideas and turning them in to better ideas.

Collaboration can also be very ugly. I have had my fair share of ugly collaboration work but learned how to get through it. All in all you have to learn how to work with others bring them up and not put them down. A good leader or partner can bring the best out of you not the worst.

Being in advertising we are constantly working in groups. So everyone better get use to it i over the years have learned how to be a good partner and a good leader so really i have no problems with Collaboration anymore i have learned to deal with the good, the bad & the ugly.

CreateAthon AfterMath!

It has been five days since CreateAthon and i think that my sleep schedule is finally back to normal. CreateAthon was an amazing experience. i had so much fun staying up all night and making great work for my non-profit.

My BIggest Take Aways From CreateAthon.

-Leading a team is tough, but if you make your team happy and don’t piss them off they will do great work.

-Don’t Try to do everything on your own you have a team for a reason.

-Have fun you can’t make good work if you’re stressing the whole time.

-Find Help when you need it.

-Take Breaks to Goof off. You Can’t Just work for hours and hours without breaks you will drain yourself.

-It’s all about the non Profit. Really no matter what happens during CreateAthon you always have to remember your making work for a great non profit who could not get this level of advertising any other way.

The best moment for me was when we reveled our work to the client. We had so much work for them they where just in shock by all the work. They were only expecting one video and we gave the tons and tons of work. They were just so happy with everything.

I had an Amazing Team Consisting of Sam Roots, Jon Angot, Brennan Wyatt, Travis Hall and Swetha “SWAG” Gavirneni. With out them i would not have been able to produce all this work

Again No words can describe the feeling of sleep deprived happiness i had while presenting to our wonderful non-profit Sportable.

werallthieves:

Gives them a community of peers where they may not have this originally might not have. It shows them that not matter what there physical disability then can still achieve there goals. It also gives them mentors to help them as they grow.

-Without My Client These individuals would not have the above mentioned opportunities.

5. Just excited for the super amazingness that is Creatathon

What is the problem & who are you talking to?

-Clients main problem is that they do not have enough cliental. They only have about 100 clients. There other problem is that they would like more youth clients out of there clients only about 1/3 are youth.

- For CreateAthon our main target is going to be the youth trying to show them what the benefits of Sportable and there are many.

Sportable has a problem reaching a younger audience. Most of there clientele are folks who are older and out of school already. They would like to reach the youth by building there confidence and having the coaches mentor them. Show them that they can achieve goals they they never thought possible. They have all this great content that they want to share with the younger audience but they are not sure how to get it out to them. That is where i come in they have this great story and all this great work but how do they tell there story to a younger audience. what are the best mediums to reach this younger audence this is what i will be figureing out in the up coming weeks wish me luck. All the best to my class mates.

Client Meeting

On Tuesday i was able to meet with my Client for creatathon on campus. It was a great experience and i am really excited to work with them from here on out. While talking to the client i learned a lot about Sportable and the people they help. They provide 13 different sports for the Physically Disable. They modify the sports in certain ways to allow the physical disable to play them. I was very interested in the vast types of sports that they offered and extremely excited to see that they had lacrosse my favorite sport.

One thing that worried me at first was that they already have contact with with someone from an advertising company who recently re branded them. At first this worried me i was wondering what we where going to do for them. After talking to Peyton for a little i again became excited because i have a different opputunty the most of the kids in my class. Since the work for there website and brochures has already been done i get the opportunity to figure out the best way to communicate the story of sportable and how to reach a younger audience such as high school kids who have not heard of sportable.

I am very excited for these class and can’t wait to do my onsite visit soon. I will Keep you all posted and updated with my progress of working with this amazing non profit.

Creative Brief Rough Draft

Client:Sportable

Project:

Job:

Team Leader: Ian Taylor

Creatathon on campus VCU School of Mass Communications

Director: Peyton Rowe

Creatathononcampus.org

They younger physically disabled community, high school and lower is not aware of the opportunity to work on team skills tune there skills in sports and have fun.

Raise awareness with the younger physical disable community about the opportunities that Sportable offers.

Younger Physically disable who have the want to be on a team, excise, compete and show off there physical skills through sports they have not heard of the opportunities that Sportable offers. They have not heard of the opportunities that Sportable has to offer providing modified sports for the physically disabled. That there are sports and teams and leagues that they can play in rather then watching there friends play.

They are mostly high school students who have to sit back and watch there friends and classmates play in P.E. while they are unable. They have to sit back and watch there sports teams while they have to desire to compete. They have the desire to practice hone there skills work with a team and win. In there schools they have few peers who go thought the same thing they do. they have the desire to meet more of there peers in the greater richmond areas build bonds with there peers. The desire to see the older physical disabled community and how they live and work and carry on there lives in the community.

They do have the chance to compete in sports even thought they think it possible.

They will be shown in various ways that the older physical disabled community is already playing these sports. The multiple benefits of playing these sports such as team work, physical exercise, a variety of physical skills such as hand eye coordination, confidence and a community where they can grow and meet new people.

The best context to show this message is through visuals that can be easily found by the target audience.

CreateAthon: What is Non Profit

A non profit is an organization that uses its surplus revenue to help achieve its goal over distributing them as profits. Non Profits are more concerned about achieving a goal rather then making a profit. There a few different types of non profits.

A public charities is one type of non profit their missions range from helping the poor to advancing science. To be a public charity the non profit has to have broad public support, actively functions to support another charity. Many public charities relay on large public donations for there money.

Private Foundations are non governmental, non profit organizations that are managed either by the trusties or the board of directors most Private Foundations make large donations to public charities.

Those are the two main types of non profit organizations. There are still more types of organizations such as social clubs, trade associations, labor unions and advocacy agencies.

Non Profits are amazing types of organizations. Since they are not Profit motivated they can easily focus on the mission that they have set up to accomplish. Most non profits help the community in a number of different ways from funding social programs to helping with economic opportunities.

Through the CreateAthon on campus i am taking at vcu i will get the chance to make an ad campaign for a non profit. i am really excited to do this. While practicing advertising and finishing up my senior year at vcu i am glad we get to give back to the community by helping the local non profits.
